David Smelko - "Many brothers may remember a fantastic little restaurant in South Fayette Twp., a short distance down the valley from Frater Randy Porter's ranch.  The restaurant, a landmark in southwestern Pennsylvania, called Fatigati's White Front Inn, burned to the ground this past Friday Jan. 5, 2001.  It will be missed."

From Waynesburg: As many of you know, all Greeks were banished from campus by President Thyreen approximately 2 years ago.  Shortly after that, our house was sold to a professor at the College.  Last year Rich (Hovan II '73) & myself had the opportunity to tour the house with the owner.  We even shared a beer at our old bar!  This summer, we received word that our house had been sold again.  The professor, who was dismissed, sold our house to Waynesburg College!!!!  We do not know the plans for it's future use (an alcohol rehab center??).  For its strong anti-Greek actions, it may be fitting to sing in the future "Let's go down & piss on the TKE house"!

The Chapter: After all the punishment, the Chapter has
taken from the College, it is still alive off campus!  We are still recognized by TKE International as an active Chapter.
Although the numbers are small, the spirit is alive!  There is a chapter room in Groovey's (Frater alumni) Restaurant in town.  Our old pledge paddles line the walls!  We even had the opportunity to attend a formal meeting last year at Homecoming.  The actives would like to build their own Chapter house in the future.

An-TKES: (Antiques, get it?)  Don Richter '68 & myself
(Hovan I '69) retired in the Spring of 1999.  We live about 3 miles apart in Severna Park, Md.  We are very active golfers & try to play at least 2-3 times per week.  We team up with Ray (Pumpsie) Meyer '68 when he gets a day off as a Librarian in a
local high school.  We have also heard that John Pauliny '69,
another Marylander, has also retired.

Also, we regret to inform of the death of Ethel
Simpson, our former House Mother.  Ethel was in
her 90's (!!) and was living in a care facility in
the Waynesburg area.  She was truly a Saint  for
what she had to put up with!

From Steve Gunderson:

I will always remember "Boogs".  Phil was that rare personality which was blessed by it's unique nature.  Boogs developed blunt honesty & playful orneriness into an art form of unforgettable & extremely pleasing beauty.  He also had the knack of letting everyone else talk at length & then penetrating to the heart of the matter in an instant & without wasting many words.  For example; Were he here now for me to say that to his face,  there is no question that his reply would be delivered with brilliant wit, in less than a half dozen words, and that although about half of those words would be unprintable & insulting, the effect of them would be as a kind & loving embrace between good friends.  Only Boogs could do that kind of thing, and only those who knew him can understand exactly what I'm trying to say!  In short,  while I hadn't talked with Phil much until the recent re-union: We are all diminished by his passing.  He was a unique & irreplaceable frater & he will be missed.
